Earlier last year, at StrapiConf 2022 we announced the creation of an independent, decentralized, community-led Strapi Organization in partnership with amazing community members: Sacha, Boaz, Mattie and Simen.
The Organization aims to provide value to Strapi users by creating well-maintained plugins, integrations, and tooling. This dedicated GitHub organization already includes popular repositories such as the awesome-strapi repository, Dockerize, to add docker support for a Strapi Project or strapi-plugin-rest-cache.
The creation of the Strapi Organization was a step forward in Strapi's commitment to Open Source. It also shows our intentions of building a sustainable open-source ecosystem around the core Strapi product while compensating open-source contributors for their work. The Strapi organization achieves this by letting anyone building critical or popular tools for the Strapi Community expense work towards keeping those projects alive, well maintained, and documented.
At the moment, as mentioned, the organization council is led by four members, namely:
The organization council is a group of people who coordinate many activities and handle administrative tasks like repo management, expenses, and organization direction. It’s also worth noting that the council members are reviewed annually.
This independent organization welcomes anyone interested in participating via Discord.
The council processes all reimbursement for members maintaining packages in the Strapi Community Organisation. Everything is open and visible on the organization Open Collective. Council members usually send out payments for expenses recorded every month.
Strapi also contributes to the organization's budget through donations, usually around the StrapiConf user conference.
Reach out in Discord and talk to members, suggest projects to be added to the organization, or pitch your project so you can also benefit from the open collective and get compensated for work done on your project. If you’d also like to maintain other packages or answer questions, your contribution is more than welcome!
If you want to increase the scope of your contribution and take up a bit more responsibility, you can talk to council members about joining them. The Organization has annual reviews for council members and
A big goal for 2023 is to be more regular with meetings; 2022 saw the organization mostly functioning in stealth mode. The org plans to be more outward with its plans and how the larger community can be involved. To set the ball rolling on that goal, they’ve opened up a competition to build the org website, with attractive cash prizes. Competition details can be found here.
To stay up to date with org activity and proceedings, join the com-org-hangout channel in Discord and stay updated.
Hopefully, this gives you a better idea of what the org is up to and how you can be a part of this.
To a great year ahead!
